Strategic Planning

Welcome to the West ISD Strategic Planning Team Work and Information Site!

It truly is an exciting time in the history of West ISD!

Since the April 2013 fertilizer plant explosion, West ISD has undergone multiple new construction and facility renovation projects. With the help of Huckabee and Claycomb architectural firms, the district has worked hard to renovate and rebuild all of the facilities that were lost or damaged due to the explosion. To review our journey, please see the "West ISD Construction Projects" link on the sidebar of this website.

In 2017, the West ISD Strategic Planning Team (SPT) held several planning sessions and discussions about the future of our school district. With the completion of the new West Middle and High School campus, the district's attention turned to other areas of need. Topics included student and community growth projections, facility needs, teaching and learning initiatives, technology implementation, staffing, state and federal accountability mandates, and budget needs.

Through this work, goals and actions statements were crafted. One of the action goals centered on the need for a new West Elementary School campus. In May 2018, a Bond Election was held seeking passage of a $20,000,000. bond for a new campus on a new site. The measure failed by 61 votes, but the resolve of the District and community was never stronger. After taking additional time to partner with the community and review all questions from the previous bond proposal, the District organized a new bond election for November 2019. The new bond request was for $21,485,000. with the new campus to be located off Cottonwood Road by the West Middle and High School campus. With the focus on the students of West ISD, the community came together and approved the new bond, 875 to 606.

Then again in 2024, the SPT was reformed and new discussions and planning sessions were held to help plan for the future of West ISD. Actions statements included work on several district facility needs, a plan for growth at West Elementary School, new programs at West Middle and High School, new district fundraising guidelines, new safety and security measures, and new district-wide counseling programs.

In addition to the SPT information, this website also holds all required postings for our work on the state's District of Innovation (DOI) designation and federal ESSER I-III Grant plan.
