Overview

During the week of January 15-19, 2024, letters were mailed from the district to over 100 students, staff, teachers, parents, community members, and business leaders calling for their membership on the new West ISD Strategic Planning Team (SPT). The SPT has been formed once again in hopes of drafting a new action plan with recommendations to the West ISD Board of Trustees for consideration and approval in several key growth areas across West ISD through the 2029-2030 school year and beyond. The district believes the strategic planning process is the way to go.

Strategic planning helps (1). Maintain focus on our vision, mission, and goals, (2). Ensure effective use of resources, (3). Provide additional opportunities to interact with and educate our many stakeholders, (4). Use a formal process for developing and analyzing a plan (including fiscal impacts), (5). Provide support for West ISD as an integral part of the community, (6). Document district improvements, and (7). Provide the “why” about every piece of the plan. 

Current SPT breakout session topics include:

1. Current and Future Facility and Program Needs;
2. Technology Initiatives;
3. Teaching and Learning Initiatives;
4. Safety and Security Initiatives;
5. Staff Recruitment, Development, Retention, Compensation, and Wellness Initiatives; and
6. Parent and Community Engagement Initiatives.
