Disciplinary Alternative Education Program (DAEP)

Established in conformance with the Texas Education Code (TEC), §37.008, a Disciplinary Alternative Education Program (DAEP) is defined as an educational and self-discipline alternative instructional program, adopted by local policy, for students in elementary through high school grades who are removed from their regular classes for mandatory or discretionary disciplinary reasons. A DAEP may be located on-campus or off-campus in adherence with requirements specified in §129.102.

In West ISD, the secondary DAEP classroom is located on-campus at 1008 Jerry Mashek Street. All DAEP guidelines are outlined in the West ISD Student Code of Conduct. The elementary DAEP houses students in Kindergarten through Grade 5, and the secondary DAEP houses students in Grades 6-12.

West ISD does not permit a student who is placed in a DAEP to participate in any school-sponsored or school-related extracurricular or co-curricular activity including seeking or holding honorary positions and/or membership in school-sponsored clubs and organizations. A student placed in a DAEP shall not be provided transportation unless he or she is a student with a disability who has transportation designated as a related service in the student’s IEP. For seniors who are eligible to graduate and are assigned to a DAEP at the time of graduation, the placement in the program shall continue through graduation, and the student shall not be allowed to participate in the graduation ceremony and related graduation activities.
